SportsCity Academy General Manager - Marty Dello

Marty Dello, SportsCity General Manager / Magic Basketball Program Manager & Instructor

Marty Dello the General Manager of Sportscity Academy. Marty has overall operational responsibility for SportsCity, including the development of program offerings in all sports served by SportsCity. Marty brings an impressive background and outstanding coaching & administration credentials to his leadership role at SportsCity.

Marty is also the Director of the Magic AAU Basketball Organization, with operations in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska. Marty has extensive experience in boys and girls youth basketball coaching, instruction, scouting, recruiting and collegiate placement for high school basketball players.

Marty previously was the head basketball coach at Barrington (IL) High School, Crystal Lake (IL) South High School. Marty has collegiate coaching experience as the head coach at Bellevue (NE) University, assistant coach at Doane (NE) College, and head basketball coach at McHenry County (IL) College. Marty has a long list of coaching high school and collegiate achievements including IHSA Regional Championships and Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference “Coach of the Year”.

Marty is a 2010 inductee into the Woodstock (IL) High School Hall of Fame for his basketball achievements.

Marty Dello opened the Marty Dello Basketball School in the Fall of 2004 as a training ground for McHenry County. The program has grown into the fastest growing basketball club in Illinois, if the not the Midwest. Coach Dello’s program is now in four states and has produced over 150 college basketball players. The Marty Dello Basketball School runs a variety of programs ranging from private lessons, skill training, camps, and travel basketball teams. Coach Dello and staff will teach students fundamental concepts while striving to make students more competitive and complete players. The Marty Dello Basketball School is based out of Sportscity Academy in Woodstock, IL. It is our goal to provide a professional environment where players can strive towards their fullest potential.

Juan Acevedo, Baseball Pitching Instructor

Juan Acevedo is a pitching instructor for SportsCity Academy.  Juan had an 8 year career in the Major Leagues playing for the Cardinals, Yankees, Marlins, Tigers, Mets, Rockies and Blue Jays.  He appeared in 367 MLB games.  Career highlights include his 1998 season with the Cardinals, in which he appeared in 50 games, had an 8-3 record, 15 saves, and a 2.56 ERA.  Juan is a graduate of Dundee-Crown High School.  Juan brings tremendous pitching knowledge and a passion for teaching young pitchers.  Juan is available for individual pitching lessons and for team instruction. 

Kim “Hoss” Johnson, MCC Head Baseball Coach, Baseball Instructor

Coach Johnson began coaching at MCC as Head Baseball Coach from 1992 - 1996 and is now in his second stint as Head Coach which began in 2001. In his MCC coaching career Coach Johnson has recorded over 300 Fighting Scots wins with over 400 overall collegiate wins as a head coach. During his tenure he has coached seven All-Americans and seen ten of his players sign professional contracts. Over 40 of Coach Johnson’s players have continued to play baseball at other colleges and universities after MCC.

In addition to his accomplishments at MCC, Hoss has professional baseball experience. Coach Johnson served as the pitching coach for the Cook County Cheetahs Professional Baseball Club in 2002 and worked as an Associate Scout for the Texas Rangers from 1988-1993. He also has a plethora of international coaching experience. Hoss served as the head coach of the United States and led his team to bronze medals in both the Pacific Ocean Games in Colombia, South America in 1995 and Mexico’s Olympic Festival in 1993. Coach Johnson served as the head coach of the United States Team in the German Open European Cup in 2000 and as an assistant coach for the United States 15 year old National Team in Chiba, Japan in 1996. Coach Johnson is an instructor and trainer with SportsCity Academy.

Jim Herendeen, Baseball Instructor

Jim Herendeen offers individual baseball instruction at SportsCity Academy.  Jim is a long time baseball coach and instructor in Woodstock Little League and Woodstock Lightning Travel Baseball, and is an assistant coach with Marian Central High School.  Jim has extensive experience in working with players to develop and train on throwing, fielding, pitching, defense and base running.

Craig Strang, Baseball Instructor

Craig Strang offer individual and clinic instruction at SportsCity Academy.  Craig provides general baseball instruction and also specializes in catching instruction.  Craig Strang was a catecher at NAIA Bellevue University where Craig was a key member of their College World Series Champion team. Craig was named the MVP of the NAIA Colleg World Series. Craig is a coach and volunteer for Woodstock Little League, he is a special catching instructor for the Woodstock Lightning, and he is an assistant baseball coach at Marian Central High School.

Wally Warner, Softball Instructor

Wally Warner is a softball instructor at SportsCity.  Wally is an ASEP certified coach with over 25 years of coaching experience.  Wally is the varsity Softball Coach for Johnsburg High School. Wally previously worked with the Northern Ice Travel (Girls) Softball program where he lead multiple teams to high national rankings. Wally trained numerous girls softball players who have moved on to college NCAA Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3 programs. Wally is a Board member with the Northern Ice Fast Pitch Travel softball league where he serves as their Tournament Director. Wally has also played and coached football and baseball.  Wally will provide private and group softball instruction at SportsCity Academy.

Pete Riis, Softball Instructor

Pete Riis is a softball instructor at SportsCity Academy. Pete has been a softball coach and instructor for over 10 years, and is a board member, coach and instructor with the Woodstock Girls Softball Association. Pete was a coach, instructor, and past President of the Colleyville (TX) Girls Softball Association. He also has coached and instructed boy’s baseball as well. Pete brings a wealth of softball experience, instructional expertise and knowledge to private instruction and camps/clinics at SportsCity Academy.

Dale Jandron, Basketball Instructor

Dale Jandron offers basketball camps, clinics and instruction at SportsCity Academy.  Dale led the creation and development of Woodstock Youth Boys Basketball rec league and travel programs in Woodstock which serves over 400 Woodstock area boys.  Dale is a former high school player and high school assistant coach at Woodstock High School.  Dale has extensive experience working with youth programs at every level. 

Guy Petty, Speed, Strength & Conditioning  Instructor

For the past five years, Guy has been helping Athletes to perform to their best ability in individual, small group, and team settings. Guy has worked with athletes from Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, Football, Baseball, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, and Track and Field.  Guy is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and NSCA-CPT.
